Deficiency Diseases

Deficiency diseases: They occur mainly due to deficiency of one or more nutrients in the diet for a long period of time. Lack of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, or minerals in the diet can cause diseases. Diseases that are caused due to the lack of nutrients in the diet are called deficiency diseases. Deficiency diseases cannot be transmitted from one person to another.

For example, wheat is rich in carbohydrates, but poor in other nutrients like proteins and fats. Thus too much of wheat products results in deficiency of proteins and fats which reduces growth of the body.
